Cyprus Kitesurfing is a popular water sport activity on the island. The variety of beaches, wave sizes, wave strengths, ideal water temperatures and year round sunshine allow for perfect conditions for surfers at all ability levels.
The sport as we know it is actually only 12 years old because it was not until 1997 that it first gained international interest and quickly became one of the fastest growing extreme water sports. Kite surfers wear safety helmets and perform a spectacular array of manoeuvres whils standing on a board and being harnessed to a breeze-filled sail.

Two French entrepreneurs, Fred Bene and Eric Beaudonnat, both discovered the sport in Hawaii and then met at the Wipika School. They both realized that the sport had huge potential and would evolve quickly but it needed to do so safely at an international level. In November 2001 they founded IKO the International Kite-boarding Organisation.
For beginners, finding a qualified instructor is important. There are numerous Kitesurfing Tuition Holiday packages available which include accommodations, equipment rentals, daily instructions for 2-4 hours and evening entertainment. The packages usually last 5-7 days depending on the IKO (International Kite Organization) Levels.
