Cyprus Fishing in saltwater and freshwater is a popular pastime for the visitors and locals. The oceans surrounding the island have approximately 250 species of exotic fish including tuna, amberjack and snapper. Boats, rods and equipment can be rented from fishing supply stores and centers across the island.
There are over 20 stocked reservoirs and dams in Cyprus, they are open to anglers and hold over 15 species of freshwater fish including trout, larchmouth, carp and bass. The department of fisheries have strict regulations for anglers. The times, locations and fishing methods are determined by environmental factors and dam conditions.

Fishing Regulations and Licensing
A License can be obtained for visitors and residents angling in dams from the head office of the fisheries department in Nicosia, or from the local district offices of fisheries.
License Applications
1. Licenses are considered personal and issued to any-one over 12 years of age.
2. All licenses issued expire at the end of the year.
3. Group licenses are available for organized groups. Once approved they are for a duration of 14 days. The cost is 8.50 euros per person.
4. A booklet is sold by the fisheries department and costs 3.42 euros. It prints colored pictures of all fish found in the reservoirs.
5. Licences are valid for one year, following the date declared by the Department of Fisheries.
6. The fee is 17 euros for each reservoir and 34 euros for all reservoirs.

Freshwater fishing regulations
Anyone fishing in Cyprus must adhere to fishing regulations which apply to the following:
Fishing hours: daylight only, including an hour before sunrise and the hour after sunset
Fishing methods: single rod, line and hook per licence holder; no fishing aids or chemicals
Fishing location: from dam banks only
Catch limit: there is a catch limit per species
Size limit: there is a size limit per species
Bank protection: bank-side soil and plants are protected and includes a limit on the use of vehicles (sce. cto, cypanglofor)
